KAIL-TV THE FIRST FRESNO AREA TV STATION
TO BROADCAST IN MOBILE DTV
Both KAIL-TV channels (My 7.1 & RTV 7.2)
can currently be seen using Mobile DTV devices.
Clovis, CA (February 22nd, 2010) – KAIL-TV announced today that they are broadcasting both, their primary digital channel (My 7.1), and their secondary digital channel (RTV 7.2) in the new Mobile DTV format. Mobile DTV is a new technology designed to deliver television broadcast signals to mobile devices. In the coming months cel phones, laptop computers, portable media players, GPS devices, and the like will be designed to include a chip that will allow them to receive local television stations that broadcast in Mobile DTV. And what will come as a pleasant surprise to viewers using one of these new devices, they will not be charged a fee to access these channels via Mobile DTV. Just as KAIL’s regular digital transmitions of My 7.1 and RTV 7.2 are broadcast without charge to viewers, so too are KAIL’s Mobile DTV signals.
Mobile DTV is designed to minimize, and even eliminate reception interruptions when the devise is being used “on-the go”. Traditional television signals have had problems being received in non-stationary situations. Even smaller TV’s designed to be portable have difficulty maintaining an uninterrupted signal when in motion. When riding in a car, passengers using a Mobile DTV devise should see little or no signal interruption. (KAIL does not advocate that persons driving a vehicle use any equipment that would distract them from operating that vehicle in a safe manner.)
Mobile DTV allows viewers alternatives in accessing KAIL’s television signals. For example, Dish and DirecTV customers do not currently receive RTV 7.2 as part of their service. Those viewers could purchase an inexpensive Mobile DTV tuner designed to connect to a laptop computer, thus turning that computer into a digital TV capable of receiving RTV 7.2. The applications are numerous.
“KAIL is moving forward to become the Central Valley’s leader in cutting edge technology among TV stations” said KAIL General Manager, Charles Williams. He continued to say, “Our launch of Mobile DTV is another example of our continuing investment in equipment and programming”.
